Les River Community Center

The Center, known locally as the "LRCC," is an essential element of Beverly Glen's unique lifestyle and hosts many activities that pull the community together.  At the Annual Meeting most of the residents get the inside scoop on the City of Los Angeles directly from our councilman, Jack Weiss.  Residents can air their concerns, mostly about traffic and elect a board of officers.  The "Sunday Afternoons in the Glen" series features lectures and music programs by Glen authors and artists.  Also there are Town Hall meetings to discuss ballot measures and candidates as well as play readings and performances by talented and distinguished Glen neighbors.  And of course the LRCC is the home of Beverly Glen Playgroup, called by L.A. Magazine, "one of the City's pre-eminent pre-schools."

It was the dream of author and activist Les River to have our own community center and he worked for many years to make it happen.  Les died just before the Center was purchased in 1981 and Playgroup moved in as the permanent weekday tenant.  Today the LRCC is managed by a Board of Directors independent of the Residents of Beverly Glen, and a permanent member is Les' widow, Dorothy River.  Next time you visit look for the Les River display next to the magnificent "river stone" hearth and you'll see a bit of Glen history.
